A reconfiguration and small rear extension for this 1970s terrace house in Putney. The clients, a young family, were keen to make use of the lovely south facing light that currently fills the first floor living space, while providing ground floor garden access from kitchen & dining areas. nimtim’s proposal pulls back part of the first floor, creating a double height space to allow light to enter the currently dark ground floor and to connect the two living areas. Bedrooms have been reconfigured to be accommodated within the first and second floors. The garage has been converted into additional living & storage space.
A vertical trellis has been constructed between the two rear flank walls to host an existing Wisteria plant. The deciduous Wisteria will provide dappled shade in the summer while its leaves are full, and maximise natural light in the winter.
