Our 'a house in gardens' project receives Planning Approval from Southwark - The roof pitch is raised on all sides to transform a previously unused loft space into a master bedroom, study and shower room. Large rooflights provide long views of the surrounding treetops and are used to ventilate and passively cool the space.

We are offering hour-long consultations on workspaces to help people with space planning, distancing and safeguarding measures or even just a bit of inspiration to help us work better in the short and long term. nimtim takes part in Museum of Architecture's Gingerbread City 2019
We have been hard at work designing, experimenting, building and sometimes breaking our creation for this year's Gingerbread City which will be on show at Somerset House from Saturday 7th December. 'Watermelon Peaks' will be a beacon to the city as well as being a destination for entertainment. It will be a place to interact in a number of indoor and outdoor social activities such as dancing, skiing, climbing and cycling. Twinkly cavernous interiors create monumental spaces for getting your gingerbread groove on. Triangular green roofscapes become a mode of transport for the active gingerbread person. Dropping in for a drink or dinner has never been so easy.
nimtim included on The AJ's 40 under 40 list
We are very excited to be included on The Architects' Journal's 40 under 40 list alongside some we've worked with before, and lots of others we haven't yet had the chance to.
It's been a crazy year, with lots of uncertainty but this is a fantastic way to finish the year with some very exciting projects starting in the new year as well.

Green House featured in Real Homes September Issue
The current edition of real Homes is out and features Green House. A hyper-low budget extension to an Edwardian mid terraced house in Beckenham, South London, that through careful consideration and use of inexpensive materials radically alters how existing ground floor spaces are used for this creative family who love to cook.
10 years of Don't Move, improve! PechaKucha
The NLA invited Nimi and Allie to present Pitch Perfect as part of this evening of quick-fire presentations (20 images x 20 seconds) looking back at some of the most memorable homes featured since the competition began. All speakers gave an insight into the journey from idea to completion. The presentation can be viewed from the NLA website.

nimtim's Generation Game project is featured in the August issue of Good Homes magazine.

Becontree Centenary: Squaring the Corners
We are so so excited that we can finally show our winning proposal for the public realm works as part of the Beacontree Centenary. We worked with the artist Katie Schwab on our ‘Squaring the Corners’ project which looks at joining four corner plots to recreate a new Civic Square. Each square suggests new activities and performs new functions by inviting residents to take ownership of them. The competition was run by RIBA London and Create London. image by Gilbert Leung
RIBA Ambassadors 2018
Jess and Allie went to Kentish Town Primary to meet children from reception class to give them an insight into architecture and get them inspired by the built environment. Their topic was marble runs, so while they had fun building some pretty cool marble runs they were also learning about the architectural concepts of materiality, measurements and strengths. I think we definitely have some future architects and engineers here :)

Work has started onsite at our Plinth project in Honor Oak. The roof is well and truly raised ready for a loft conversion. On the ground floor a full width rear extension will maximise the panoramic views of South London.

New visual for Have a Butcher's
As one of the first schemes to receive planning approval from Southwark within the Old Kent Road Opportunity Area, nimtim’s playful and contemporary building covers two complex infill sites providing 5 apartments above a proposed butcher’s shop and warehouse. The scheme sets a precedent for sensitive and thoughtful new interventions within the area.

New ways of discussing space
At nimtim we have been looking at new ways of discussing spaces, uses and activities with clients - what works, what doesn't and what they'd love to have in their home.
Roof raised at Plinth

Staying at Home
During these crazy times it may be difficult to start doing work to your home. Another one of our tips for working from home is to think about spaces differently. Most of our clients look for a sense of open-ness and connection between the spaces in their homes. Can one space be flexible and potentially used for multiple activities at different times in the day/ week? Can you create more definition and articulation of the different functions within a single space? We find sitting down and having a chat with all the family can be incredibly helpful to work out how the space can work for everyone. Here’s some photos of our Pitch Perfect project where we converted the existing kitchen at the front of the house into a flexible space; potentially a kids snug/guest bedroom/home office.

Remote Working
We are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with our clients, friends and collaborators. We have set up remote working for the studio and it will be business as usual because we have to be. Being a small business we are extremely worried for the future but we are taking it day by day. Support your local independent businesses as we need it now more than ever. nimtim’s mission still remains to make architecture that is a celebration of colour, material and personality. We always try to bring joy to everyday life and this feels as important to us as ever. Let’s take care of each other.
nimtim have been working on a number of projects recently that need to balance the requirements of different generations as families choose to live together for a variety of social and economic reasons. It is a growing trend and research suggests it is here to stay. This is a link to a piece that Tim has written looking at the subject.
