This 1950s semi detached house in Forest Hill was tired and in need of a rethink in terms of layout, especially downstairs. The panoramic views from the rear were not maximised from inside and this along with the creation of an artist’s studio and new master bedroom in the loft were key to the brief.
nimtim proposed a full width rear extension, with a kitchen/diner at current ground floor level, stepping down into an additional living space with built in seating providing views towards the rear gardens and South London’s skyscape beyond.
A timber grid structure, reminiscent of nearby Segal houses, stretches from interior to exterior; a restrained material palette is proposed throughout. The result will be a striking contemporary addition respectful of the original house.
Lewisham has granted planning permission and work will begin on site later in 2018.
