nimtim were asked to look at reconfiguring an end of terrace 1960s house for a young family. The house sits on a generous corner plot which once was fruit groves and is surrounded by greenery.
nimtim’s proposal for a single storey rear and side extension references Japanese concepts of borrowing landscape. A green roof on the new addition creates a single landscape that blends into the neighbouring foliage. Internally the garage is converted into a smaller more intimate snug while the current living space on the first floor is reconfigured to provide a study and generous master suite.
A large panoramic window from the new first floor master suite takes full advantage of the new continuos greenscape. Thoughtful placing of glazing on the ground floor frames specific views of the garden and creates a constant dialogue between the inside and outside.
