Cork House

A young, growing family approached us to explore the potential to extend and reconfigure the layout of their small 2 bedroom terraced house in Ladywell.

nimtim proposed a side and rear extension as well as a loft conversion. Key moves included relocating the kitchen to the centre of the property creating areas for dining and living, looking out on to and providing direct access to the garden. As with Pitch Perfect nimtim turned the existing different levels of the ground floor into a design advantage. Multi-levels cleverly delineate different zones for kitchen, dining and living while creating visual integration and privacy to allow practical open plan living.

The pitch of the new extension mimics the pitch of the neighbouring side extension. The existing and new forms merge to form a sculptural ceiling plane internally with fixed, and opening roof lights to flood the space with light. The rear elevation consists of a large pivot timber framed door and a large fixed timber framed picture window that extends up to the roof lights.

The project was granted planning approval from Lewisham in late summer 2017 and work started on site in spring 2018.
