Following our runner's up place in the St Helena housing competition, we were invited by the St Helena Government to develop a concept for a new district on a prominent ridge near to the island's capital Jamestown.
Collaborating again with Charabanc, we developed a strategy for the site which was focused around a grand boulevard which tied together 3 distinct areas of varying density and character. Following the natural topography of the site, moving from low-dense, sub-urban style bungalows through a busy and dense area of terraces and commercial units set out in terraces and finally culminating in an urban scale university/ study centre district of piazzas and public institutions.
Each of these districts is anchored by a corresponding public space - a village green, town square and city piazza that choreograph the residential and public buildings around them and are connected by the central boulevard that ties the entire development together.
We are working with St Helena Government to bring development partners to the project which will form a key part of the housing strategy for the entire island over the next decade.
