A House of Two Halves

nimtim architects were asked to carry out an appraisal for the conversion of an existing semi-detached property in Brockley into two separate dwellings following a planning approval that included a number of compromises in terms of internal layout.

We introduced a new fire strategy that allowed a more open plan arrangement at ground floor maximising the space available.

Working to a tight budget, we proposed an efficient ‘pod’ in the middle of the space to include the new bathroom and kitchen acting like a piece of furniture and freeing up the rest of the space, making the living accommodation feel more open and generous.

The scheme uses a simple palette of materials that vary subtly between each property to give a sense of individuality to both dwellings whilst remaining coherent as a single project.
